

but apparently all they have to spare are a few dozen fighters so Abrams could try to recreate the battle against the first Death Star. It's especially weird when this ended up happening in Force Awakens because you would think that after having their capital system get blown the fuck up, that the attack on Starkiller Base would have the full might of the New Republic bearing down on it. Every other space battle in the films either don't have capital ships show up to a meaningful extent (Episodes I, II, IV, V, and VII) or when they do actually show up, they aren't really shown doing anything other than being glorified set pieces for the captain/admiral to bark out orders to the snub fighter pilots (VI and Rogue One).

I mean, out of all eight of the films, the only time to date where we actually see two Capital Ships directly firing at each other is the very beginning of Revenge of the Sith.

Click to shrink.I think this mostly has to do with how Star Wars in general seems to bend over backwards to never show any Capital Ship vs Capital Ship battles, and instead exclusively focus on snub fighters.
